Kellie Marlatt, administrative coordinator for the Dean of the Libraries, has been named the Clemson Libraries Employee of the Year. The award, which was established in 1987, recognizes a Libraries staff member for significant contributions and excellence in service, innovation, and teamwork.

Marlatt has been on the staff at the Libraries since 2018. Prior to that, she worked in University Advancement as administrative coordinator for the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations for six years. Her nominator cited her helpfulness, positive attitude, and work ethic as the reasons why she was deserving of the award.

“Kellie keeps everything running behind the scenes! With all the [faculty] searches constantly going on right now she helps coordinate logistics and makes sure we all have a room and food for our candidates … She is cheerful, happy to help however she can, and always follows through. Kellie is the best!” wrote her nominator.

Marlatt provides administrative support for the Office of the Dean of the Libraries. In addition to supporting the dean, she assists with logistics for on-campus faculty candidate interviews, sends the Libraries’ internal weekly employee newsletter, plans special events such as Student Worker Appreciation Day and the Libraries’ annual employee holiday party, and serves as a liaison between the dean and internal and external groups and individuals.

A native of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Marlatt earned a degree in business management from Tri-County Technical College. During her time at Tri-County, she was Tri-County’s nominee for the USA Community and Junior College Academic Team. She also served as secretary of the Alpha Zeta Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Theta Honor Society. She was named Most Outstanding Student in Business Technology in 2001.

She and her husband Jeff previously co-owned and operated two locations of their own business in Florida — the Mole Hole, an upscale gift shop and gallery. After moving to South Carolina to be closer to family, she worked in sales for OB One Communications and then as an administrative assistant for the Rosemond Law Firm before joining the University. In her free time, she enjoys participating in a book club, socializing with friends, and spending time with her family, all of whom live in the area.
