Meece Mill

1054 Meece Mill Road, Pickens

Publisher’s note: Now the site of Yoder’s at Meece Mill, open the third Saturday of each month for desserts, Meece Mill, built in the 1930’s on the Twelve Mile River, made grits, flour, and cornmeal and operated until 1964. It was built at the site of the Gravely Mill. Meece Mill’s first miller was Mack Walker. After him, one of Mack’s sons, Willie Walker (who was my mother’s uncle by marriage), was a miller, as was one of Willie’s sons, Edward Walker (my mother’s first cousin), when he was in high school. A booklet about the history of Meece Mill and its millers and owners, with newspaper articles compiled by Jerry Hughes, may be purchased at Yoder’s at Meece Mill for $3. ~~ Karen Brewer
