Widespread flu activity continues in South Carolina week ending February 1

Flu cases remain at a high level in the state of South Carolina. The South Carolina Department of Public Health has received reports from health providers in 22 of South Carolina’s 46 counties.


According to the SC Department of Public Health, 10,231 lab-confirmed tests were reported the week January 26 through February 1, and 40,324 lab-confirmed tests have been reported during the current flu season.

 

According to the SC Department of Public Health, 1,284 flu-related hospitalizations were reported the week ending February 1 by 60 hospitals. During the current flu season, 4,258 flu-related hospitalizations have been reported. 

 

According to the SC Department of Public Health, 22 flu-related deaths were reported during the week ending February 1, although three of those 22 deaths occured during previous weeks and 19 occured this week. The total number of flu-related deaths in the state during the current flu season is 67. Of those 67 deaths, 30 were reported from Upstate counties.
