A hero remembered. A legacy honored.
The Easley Police Department has announced that, during the City of Easley’s April City Council meeting, the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce had the profound honor of recognizing true heroism.
Chamber President and CEO Brian Swords presented the Community Service Award to the family of Officer Matthew Hare—a name that now lives on as a symbol of courage, selflessness, and ultimate sacrifice.
On August 2, 2023, Officer Hare gave his life in the line of duty, choosing to protect another over his own safety. His actions reflected the highest ideals of service, compassion, and love for community.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors unanimously agreed: no one was more deserving of this recognition. Officer Hare’s family accepted the award on his behalf with strength, grace, and deep pride.
We are forever grateful for his sacrifice. Officer Hare’s legacy will continue to inspire us all to serve with heart, courage, and unwavering commitment.
