Mayors join Daughters of the American Revolution to celebrate Constitution Week
By Karen Brewer, Publisher
Local Mayors joined the Fort Prince George Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in recognizing Constitution Week, which is held each year from September 17 through September 23 to honor the United States Constitution (which was signed on September 17, 1787). Each Mayor signed a proclamation during their respective City Council meeting in September.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress in 1955 to designate September 17-23 each year as Constitution Week in order to recognize its significance. In 1956, Congress adopted a resolution, which was signed into law by then President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and each President since has issued a proclamation to officially recognize Constitution Week.
