Celebrate Constitution Week and Bells Across America on Courthouse lawn

You are cordially invited to celebrate Constitution Week and Bells Across America on September 17, 2024 on the lawn of the Pickens County Courthouse, located on Main Street in Pickens. A brief ceremony will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m., followed by the ringing of bells at 4 p.m.

The tradition of ringing bells on Constitution Day began when, after four months of heated debate, the delegates to the Constitution Convention reached an agreement on September 17, 1787. As they emerged from Independence Hall at 4:00 p.m., all of the church bells in Philadelphia were ringing to celebrate the signing of the Constitution.

Some bells will be available. You may have a bell sound on your phone. If you have a bell, you may want to bring it to be certain you have one.

This event, sponsored by the Fort Prince George Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and the Pickens County 250 Committee, will celebrate and remember our forefathers who forged this nation. God Bless America.
