In observance of Veterans Day, American flags were placed at the graves of more than 100 American veterans buried in the cemetery at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.

Marion Summey and Gary Murphy, both members of Rock Springs and members of the American Legion Post 52 of Easley, placed the flags in memory of their fellow church members who served in any branch of the United States military. Money to purchase the flags was donated by Summey’s Bible Fellowship (Sunday School) class (the Inspiration class), and additional flags were donated by the funeral home for which Summey works part-time.

“We cataloged each grave that we could identify by using the memorial blocks at the graveside or by family members who told us of folks buried there without any military identification,” Summey told The Pickens County Chronicle. “These flags will be flown each year on July 4 (Independence Day) and on November 11 (Veterans Day).”

Dr. David Gallamore, Pastor of Rock Springs Baptist Church and also a veteran, told The Pickens County Chronicle, “Veterans Day is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices that men and women have made to allow us to experience all the freedoms we have today. It is with a grateful heart and much pride that today we honor our veterans, and may we never forget what they have given us.”

Below is an alphabetical list of military veterans who are buried in the Rock Springs Baptist Church cemetery. The list was provided by Summey to The Pickens County Chronicle.
