Revolutionary War lecturer Durant Ashmore, of Greenville, spoke at the Pickens County Museum of Art & History on Thursday, November 14, 2024 about ‘The Revolutionary War in Pickens and Oconee Counties, with an emphasis on General Andrew Pickens and the Cherokee’. The lecture was sponsored by the Pickens County 250 Committee, who has been sponsoring events connected to the 250th anniversary of our nation’s 1776 founding.

On Saturday, November 16, Ashmore led participants in a driving tour to historic sites in Pickens and Oconee Counties, including the gravesite of General Andrew Pickens at Old Stone Church in Clemson, Fort Rutledge at Clemson, Tamassee in Oconee County (site of the Ring Fight), and the historical marker for Fort Prince George, at Mile Creek Park.
