Pickens County Journalism Since 1999

Greenville-Pickens Speedway

Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley

Opened in the 1940’s as a dirt track and paved in 1970, Greenville-Pickens Speedway is the second oldest track sanctioned by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and is the site of the first nationally televised start to finish live NASCAR race, held on April 10, 1971. The race was filmed by The American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Greenville-Pickens Speedway is currently inactive, and supporters want to preserve the track rather than see it demolished. Losing Greenville-Pickens Speedway would be a terrible loss for our county as well as the Upstate and the state of South Carolina and all of the racing community.  ~~ Karen Brewer, Publisher & Editor
