As The Pickens County Chronicle first published in April, the Upstate Field of Honor will return for the anniversary of 9-11 for the third year, and this year’s event will also commemorate our nation’s 250^th birthday as well as the 25^th anniversary of 9-11. This year’s event will be held at the same location as last year’s event, at the field adjacent to the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, 1308 Griffin Mill Road in Easley, from September 11 through September 18. The event is free to attend.

The opening ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. The flags will fly in the field through September 18.

The Foothills Civitan Club has a goal of having 250 American flags flying in the field, the flags dedicated in memory of or in honor of American heroes, including military, first responders, law enforcement, or other personal heroes.

Patsy Finley, of the Foothills Civitan Club, told The Pickens County Chronicle, “Once again, we are offering 3×5 flags, a segmented pole which is 7+feet tall, the finial that goes on the top of the pole, the rebar which goes into the ground, and a laminated card listing the name of a hero (or someone who is thought highly of) who the flag is in honor of or in memory of, and the name of the person who made the donation, all for $40.  With this also comes the honor of the flag flying from September 11 until September 18, with many other flags, which also are honoring someone’s hero.”
