The Hiding Place holds candlelight vigil to begin Domestic Violence Awareness Month

By Karen Brewer, Publisher & Editor, The Pickens County Chronicle

“Honoring domestic violence survivors, those who have survived, those who are still surviving, and those who did not get the chance to” was the theme for the second annual candlelight vigil held by The Hiding Place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 outside the Pickens County Courthouse.

Speakers for the event, which begins Domestic Violence Awareness Month for the month of October, included The Hiding Place’s Co-Executive Directors Breann Griffin and Jennifer Pace, Pickens Police Chief Randal Beach, and Victims’ Advocate for Pickens Police Department Brittany Roper.

Candles were lit during the playing of a song of reflection, “Carry You”, sung by Ruelle.
