The Salvation Army of Pickens County announced it has created a Summer of Hope fund to help Pickens County residents struggling to stay in their homes, pay utility bills, or put food on the table during the hottest months of the year. The organization aims to raise $30,000 to assist with rent, utilities, and food for Pickens County’s most  vulnerable residents throughout June, July, and August.

The Salvation Army of Pickens County  reported the following statistics from the past year:

• 99 percent of those served were first time recipients

• 43 percent were children

• 36 percent were single individuals or seniors

• 24 percent were families   

“The need is greater due to the increased costs of living,” said Autumn Shearin, The Salvation Army of Pickens County Service Director. “We ask for the community’s support right now as donations typically decrease during the summer, and our resources are already severely stretched.”

Pickens County residents benefit from the Summer of Hope fund, as well as services throughout the year. Proof of income and expenses must be shared in order to determine eligibility.

Summer of Hope fund donations may be mailed or dropped off at the Pickens County Service Center located at 102 Stewart Drive, Easley, SC, 29640. Donors may also give online. Please call donor specialist Lydia Chaplin at 1-404-728-1300 to make a gift of stock, bonds, or securities.
