President Emeritus Dr. Jim Barker presents 'History of Campus Architecture: Why is Clemson so Beautiful?' to members of Clemson University Emeritus College

Clemson University President Emeritus Dr. James ‘Jim’ Barker spoke and gave a slideshow presentation, titled ‘History of Campus Architecture: Why is Clemson so Beautiful?’ to members of the Clemson University Emeritus College the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2026.

 

Barker, who served as President of Clemson University from 1999 until his retirement in 2013, had served as Dean of the College of Architecture and Dean of the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities prior to his time as President. He also served as Professor of Architecture beginning in 1986 and earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Clemson University. “He loves everything Clemson,” said Emeritus College Director Dr. Debbie Jackson.

Following Dr. Barker’s presentation, Dr. Jackson shared that Kathy Headley’s last day as Chair of the Emeritus College Advisory Board would be June 30, and Dr. Barker signed and presented her with a campus sketch of his as a way of showing appreciation. “Thank you so much,” said Headley. “I am thrilled.”
