Pickens County America 250 invites the community to attend “The Day They Signed for Liberty” at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, on the Pickens County Courthouse lawn beneath the Liberty Tree.

The family-friendly program will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the formal signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Although the Declaration was adopted on July 4, 1776, most delegates signed the official parchment copy on August 2. Their signatures represented courage, sacrifice, and a personal commitment to the cause of American liberty.

The program will include patriotic music, presentation of the colors, readings from the Declaration, a procession of the thirteen original states, recognition of South Carolina’s four signers, a ceremonial signing, and the ringing of thirteen bells.

Children will be invited to participate in special activities, including a Declaration Day Passport, patriotic activity pages, passport seals, and a Junior Patriot Certificate.

The event is open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend together.
