Liberty Mayor candidate debate to be held Monday, October 20

A local group of Liberty citizens, called The Liberty Advocate, has announced that a special candidate debate between Liberty Mayor Erica Woods and mayoral candidate Andrea Wagner will be held on Monday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pickens County Performing Arts Center. This 60-minute town hall-style debate will be a modified town hall style event, offering residents a chance to hear the candidates’ visions and ask questions on key local issues.

The evening will open with a welcome from Clay Counts, followed by an invocation from a local community church leader and the Pledge of Allegiance led by a United States veteran.

Local leader Roy Costner will moderate, ensuring a fair and engaging discussion. The format includes a brief introduction, candidates’ opening statements, a 47-minute question and answer session with questions from in-person attendees and online viewers, and closing remarks to encourage voting.

“We’re thrilled to bring this opportunity to Liberty residents, and we’re grateful for all the support from the community,” said Chris Carroll, event coordinator. “This event will highlight the candidates’ plans for economic development, infrastructure, and public safety, giving our citizens a voice in shaping our future.”

Residents can submit questions in advance by email to LibertyAdvocateSC@gmail.com. To keep the focus local, questions from only Liberty residents will be considered.

The Pickens County Performing Arts Center is located at 314 West Main Street in Liberty.
