Get ready for a day filled with music, creativity, and hands-on fun at KidsFest 2026 at Hagood Mill Historic Site on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Families are invited to join us for this annual celebration of Appalachian culture, presented in partnership with the Young Appalachian Musicians (YAMs).
This family-friendly event highlights the musical talents of local Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) students, featuring live performances, a traditional talent show, and interactive games and activities designed to entertain and educate visitors of all ages.
A Day Full of Fun & Learning
Attendees can enjoy a variety of hands-on experiences, including:
Paint the Ponies – Unleash your creativity by painting wooden pony figures.
Kazoo Workshop & Jug Band Jam – Join in the fun with quirky instruments and old-time rhythms.
Archaeological Adventures – Explore the past through hands-on excavation activities.
Instrument Petting Zoo – Try your hand at playing traditional Appalachian instruments.
Rock Painting – Get crafty and create colorful keepsakes.
Live Folklife Demonstrations
In addition to the musical festivities, guests can experience live demonstrations of traditional Appalachian crafts, including:
Blacksmithing
Pottery
Quilting & Weaving
Basketmaking
…and more! Visitors will have the chance to engage with artisans, watch skilled craftspeople at work, and purchase unique handmade goods.
Historic Mill in Action
The 1845 water-powered gristmill will be operating throughout the day, grinding fresh stone-ground cornmeal, grits, and flours available for purchase—offering visitors a true taste of Appalachian history.
