During the Ms. Wheelchair South Carolina 2025 competition, held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Pickens County Performing Arts Center in Liberty, Kathryn Hicks, of Six Mile, gave her farewell speech as Ms. Wheelchair South Carolina 2024.
“I can’t believe it has already been a year since I was on this stage competing for the crown.
“I competed with the platform Voice of the People. There are so many obstacles a disabled person faces daily. I vowed to fight for changes to be made so we can be treated as equals like everyone else. I have been able to talk to the Lieutenant governor, and police officers, I’ve been on the news, and so much more. I basically talked to everyone who would listen. I have to thank God for giving me the voice and for giving me the determination to accomplish all those things.
“Now, even though my time as the official titleholder is coming to an end, my fight never will. I will always be Ms. Wheelchair South Carolina 2024, and I will forever fight for the disabled community.
“Before my successor is named, I would like to give each of you a piece of advice. I know one of you will be the winner, but all of you have a platform worth fighting for. Never stop fighting for what you believe in.
“Good luck to you all, and, if any of you need any help or advice, I will always be here to help however I can.
“One last thing, I wanted to say thank you to the judges for trusting me with this title. It’s a true honor to represent the disabled community and South Carolina. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. Thank you.”
