By Karen Brewer, Publisher & Editor, The Pickens County Chronicle

During Clemson University’s 11th annual Mile of Honor, held the morning of Saturday, March 28, 2026, university students and friends and members of the community remembered the 498 alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives in service to our nation.

The event began at 8:30 a.m. at the Rotunda at President’s Park, with a ceremony featuring a welcome by Clemson University Student Veterans Association President Lauren Morrow, a moment of silence in memory of Student Veterans Association member Jacob Babayan, the singing of the national anthem by Hope Stubehofer, and speakers including keynote speaker retired U.S. Army Colonel Danny Rhodes, a founding member of Clemson Corps.

Clemson University’s Pershing Rifles Company C-4 then led the one-mile walk to the Scroll of Honor, in front of Memorial Stadium, where Doug Henry played “Taps” and then a small American flag was placed at each of the 498 names of Clemson alumni who died while serving our country.
