Meet Charles Hood, author of Looking for Space: My Pickens Journey, during an Author Talk at the Village Library in Pickens on Friday, September 19, 2025. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Looking for Space: My Pickens Journey shares a moving story of overcoming adversity, drawn from the author’s experience growing up in Pickens and reflects on how a welcoming community helped him find his place. Charles will discuss his writing journey, the inspiration behind his work, and what it takes to bring a book from idea to publication.

Guests can enjoy a live reading of an excerpt from the book, followed by a candid Q&A session where attendees can ask questions about writing, publishing, creativity, or anything else they’re curious about.

Books will be available for purchase, and all proceeds from the book sales go to the guitar scholarship at Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) named for Hood’s late son, Ryan Hood.
