The Salvation Army of Pickens County needs food and clothing donations
The Salvation Army of Pickens County issued a plea today for donations to support its Blessing Center. Right now, its stock of available items to share with those who are struggling to stay in their homes, or working to get back on their feet after experiencing a disaster, is running dangerously low.
The Salvation Army of Pickens County is asking for donations of non-perishable food items (including canned foods, boxed macaroni and cheese, dried noodles, spaghetti sauce, cereal and other breakfast items), clothing (kids’ clothing of all sizes and men’s and women’s clothing (especially dress clothes for job interviews), and household items (toiletries, feminine products, towels, washcloths).
The Salvation Army of Pickens County reported the following statistics from the past year:
99 percent of those served were first time recipients
43 percent were children
36 percent were single individuals or seniors
24 percent were families
“We’re seeing an increase in the number of individuals and families coming to us to in need of the basic necessities to live,” said Autumn Shearin, The Salvation Army of Pickens County Service Director. “We’re calling on our generous community to share what they can, so we can continue to help our most vulnerable neighbors get back on their feet.”
Pickens County residents benefit from the donations, as well as services throughout the year. Proof of income and expenses must be shared in order to determine eligibility.
Donations may be dropped off at the Pickens County Service Center located at 102 Stewart Drive in Easley. Donors may also give online.
