For many Americans, July 4 felt like the grand finale of our nation’s founding story. For South Carolina 250, it’s just the beginning.
As we turn the page from an incredible Carolina Days celebration (relive the highlights on our YouTube page) and the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we also begin the next chapter of our journey together. While 1776 is one of the most recognizable milestones in American history, the fight for independence was far from over. Some of the Revolution’s most defining moments were still to come, and many of them happened right here in South Carolina.
That’s why the work of SC250 continues through 2033, commemorating the full arc of the American Revolution until the signing of the Treaty of Paris officially ended the war and secured American independence.
Over the coming months and years, we’ll continue bringing history to life through statewide events, educational programs, exhibits, commemorations, new publications on our website, storytelling initiatives, and partnerships that highlight every corner of South Carolina’s remarkable Revolutionary story.
And we hope you’ll stay with us.
There are still battlefields to explore, more stories to uncover, more voices to celebrate, more anniversaries to commemorate, more opportunities to learn, serve, and help ensure this generation leaves a lasting legacy for the next.
