During a Clemson University Emeritus College program the morning of Thursday, July 9, 2026, Dr. Steve Wainscott, professor emeritus of political science at Clemson University, moderated a ‘Memories of Life on the Land’ panel discussion with Tom Garrison, Dr. Jim Palmer, and Dr. Dee Stegelin each sharing memories of growing up on a family farm, sharing the values they learned from farm life, and discussing how they believe farming has changed since they were growing up.

Garrison, a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, a fourth generation full-time farmer, and a son of the late T. Ed Garrison, owns Garrison Acres Farms in Pendleton.

Palmer, also a graduate of Clemson University, a native of Pendleton, and a professor emeritus of crops, soils, and environmental science at Clemson University, lives in Central.

Stegelin, a professor emerita of early childhood education at Clemson University and a native of Kansas, lives in Columbia.
