The Youth Leadership Academy’s 4th annual Hot Pursuit 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Catch-a-Cop event raised funds for a fourth wheelchair-accessible swing in Pickens County, this time at the playground at the Pickens County Airport, located on Highway 178 in Liberty. The event was held the morning of Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Pickens County Airport, a change of location from previous years at the Pickens Doodle Park.

Law enforcement officers from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and the Central Police Department, the Clemson University Police Department, the City of Clemson Police Department, the Easley Police Department, the Liberty Police Department, the Pickens Police Department, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol joined with race participants and events sponsors to raise funds during the fun event.

The 1-Mile Catch-a-Cop race, which began at 9 a.m., was free to children in fifth grade and younger, who had a great time running and then returning in law enforcement cars driven by officers from throughout the county. The 5K Run/Walk began at 9:30 a.m.

The previous three wheelchair-accessible swings were installed at the Pickens Doodle Park, the Easley Doodle Park, and Ashley Dearing Park in Clemson.
