Firefighters respond to fire at landfill

For the second time this year, Pickens County firefighters have responded to a fire at the Pickens County landfill, located on Old Liberty Road between Liberty and Easley.
At 11 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, fire crews responded, and the County announced shortly thereafter that the fire was contained but that firefighters would remain on the scene because of hot spots that firefighters were still working to extinguish.
The landfill will remain open, but the County stated that the public should exercise caution at the landfill, due to the fire truck traffic.
The cause has not yet been determined, but there is no threat to the public.
