Friends of Lake Keowee Society (FOLKS) is proud to provide financial support for college to high school students who shows a strong interest in natural resource conservation and the environment. Candidates will monitor the water quality of a chosen stream for a six-month period and then make a presentation of their findings to members of the FOLKS Board.
The Jack Lewis Watershed Stewardship Scholarship is named in honor of Jack Lewis, whose time with the Friends of Lake Keowee Society spanned 24 years. Jack’s enthusiastic attitude, keen sense of duty, and good heart were evident throughout his tenure.
Applications for the 2025-2026 Program are available now.
The purpose of this $2,500 scholarship is to support Oconee and Pickens County high school sophomores and juniors who demonstrate a strong interest in natural resource conservation and environmental stewardship. To be eligible, students must participate in a six-month water quality monitoring project using the Adopt-A-Stream protocols on a local stream of their choice.
Throughout this period, students will conduct monthly testing and collect data on stream health indicators. At the conclusion of the monitoring period, applicants will present their findings to the scholarship selection committee. This final presentation should summarize their sampling experience, interpret the health of the stream based on their data, and reflect on what they learned about local water quality and watershed health.
