Youth Leadership Academy and City of Clemson dedicate wheelchair-accessible swing

The  Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) in Pickens and the City of Clemson dedicated a new wheelchair-accessible swing in Clemson’s Ashley Dearing Park the morning of Friday, September 26, 2025.

It is the third wheelchair-accessible swing for which YLA has raised funds, the first having been in Pickens and the second in Easley.

“This new swing is a promise that every child, regardless of ability, has a place to play, to laugh, and to experience the pure joy of swinging,” said Clemson Mayor Robert Halfacre at the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting.

The City of Clemson thanked the City’s Parks & Recreation, Utilities, and Public Works in preparing for the grand opening of the park’s wheelchair-accessible swing, and also thanked law enforcement and community partners. “We’re proud to be part of a community that’s dedicated to making play accessible for all children.”
