Quilts are judged for Upcountry Quilters Guild's upcoming biennial quilt show

Members of the Upcountry Quilters Guild met at Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as their quilts were judged for their biennial quilt show, to be held Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 at the Market at the Mill.
“This is so much work for the Guild, and it’s so encouraging when the public turns out,” said judge Kathleen Rountree, who told The Chronicle that she began judging quilt shows about 20 years ago. “It’s so much fun,” she said of judging. “It’s so much fun. You get to see all the quilts. You get to appreciate all the quilts. People think that judging is somehow negative, and it’s not. It’s about finding the best of every quilt, not the worst.
“This is a hobby,” she said of quilting. “It’s a hobby, and it’s an art form, and it should be a joy. So, we try to make it that way, not to be too competitive.”
