Fourth graders from the Webelos Den of Cub Scout Pack 51 of Pickens spread mulch at Legacy Square the morning of Saturday, September 13, 2025. The Boy Scouts of Troop 51 had earlier painted the retaining wall at the back of the parking lot, adjacent to the Hagood-Mauldin House property, and the Cub Scouts spread mulch from the County’s landfill site, brought to Legacy Square by Pickens County Historical Society Senior Vice President Wayne Kelley.

Den leader and Scoutmaster Perry Gravely told The Pickens County Chronicle that both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have had many new members to join. “Pack 51 is basically five- to 10-year-olds,” he said. “We have five different dens. Then, there are fourth graders and the next group is fifth graders. After fifth grade, they graduate into the Boy Scouts.”
