Hagood Mill Historic Site to host SC Old Time Fiddler's Convention featuring the SC State Fiddling Championship September 19-20

Old-time musicians from across the region will gather at the Hagood Mill Historic Site for the annual South Carolina Old Time Fiddler’s Convention, featuring the official SC State Fiddling Championship, on Friday and Saturday, September 19–20, 2025. This beloved, state-sanctioned two-day event draws competitors, music lovers, and families for an unforgettable weekend of traditional tunes, history, and community.

 

The festivities begin Friday evening, September 19 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Pavilion with a special concert featuring:

·         Taylor Trew

·         Ben Riesser

·         Evan & Mick Kinney

 

On Saturday, September 20, the SC State Fiddling Championship kicks off at 9 a.m. Competitions will be held in fiddle, guitar, banjo, wildcat, and old-time string band—each in youth and adult divisions. The championship runs late into the evening, so visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly.

 

The Saturday night concert will begin around 7:30 p.m., featuring:

·         The Blue Ridge Rounders (featuring Bob and Amy Buckingham)

·         Dan Gellert and “Fiddling Henry” Barnes (BARNES)

·         Weekend Camping Package (Friday–Sunday) – Includes 2 camping passes, 2 Friday & Saturday concert tickets, and general admission to Saturday’s State Fiddling Competition – $60

·         Camping Only – $10/person for one night, $15/person for both nights

·         Friday or Saturday Concert Tickets Only* – $10 each

·         Saturday Competition Tickets Only* – $5

·         *Children 9 & under are free

 

The historic water-powered gristmill will be in operation on Saturday, with fresh stone-ground products available for purchase. Guests can also enjoy living history demonstrations, artisan vendors, food trucks, and the opportunity to join in lively “open jams” under the cedar tree beside the site’s 1791 log cabin.

 

Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the performances.
