Easley Police Department

The Easley Police Department shared the following on August 2, 2025, the second anniversary of the date Officer Matthew Hare, age 22, lost his life while saving the life of a citizen he did not know.

“Today marks two years since we lost Officer Matthew Hare—a true hero whose life was defined by courage, kindness, and selflessness.

“At just 22 years old, Matthew made the ultimate sacrifice while saving the life of someone he didn’t even know. That kind of bravery is rare, and it speaks volumes about the man he was.

“Matthew was more than his badge. He was a light in every room—always quick with a joke, a prank, or that unforgettable smile. His kind heart, quick wit, and joyful spirit made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

“We remember him not just for how he died, but for how he lived—with purpose, humor, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. His legacy continues to inspire us every day.

“Please take a moment to honor Officer Hare’s memory today. Keep his family, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts. And let us all strive to live with the same heart that Matthew showed the world.

“Gone but never forgotten. Always, for E16.”
